Video: Herschel Walker defeats Scott Carson via 1st Round TKO, improves MMA mark to 2-0

January 30, 2011

Herschel Walker wins 2nd MMA fight vs Scott CarsonWe covered Herschel’s first MMA bout a year ago, and — given the greatest college running back of all time; former Olympic bobsledder; professional ballet dancer; genetic freak; and, yes, borderline pro football hall of famer happens to be a hero of mine — I suppose I was pretty much obligated to fashion a quick post on his second fight.

As seen in the above video, Walker made quick work of yet another out-classed opponent on Saturday night’s Strikeforce card.

It took Herschel all of about twenty seconds to knock Scott Carson to the ground, and just another three minutes or so for the physical marvel to secure a 1st Round TKO.

We may never know how the former Heisman Trophy winner would fare against stiffer competition, but, until then, at least it’s nice to see Herschel find continued success in yet another of his many, diverse pastimes.

With the recognition Walker’s name brings to the table, MMA has probably expanded its market a tad as well, and not at the cost of staging a blatant publicity stunt. Most fans have likely come to realize that Walker, however humble his MMA ambitions may be, is serious about the sport.

Now if he could just make that NFL comeback he’s hinted at, no one could deny his status as one of the more remarkable “renaissance men” in the history of modern athletics.

At the tender age of 48, claiming a 4.39 40-yard dash time, it appears there’s still ample time…for Herschel Walker.

Hitler is told about the Vikings bizarre release of Randy Moss…

November 4, 2010

I keep waiting for these Hitler videos to get old. Hasn’t happened yet (at least not for me). To be fair, this one starts off a bit slow – thought it might be the death nail – but, by the end, it’s well worth the 4 minutes. Especially the Brett Favre and Lions jokes…

Happy Birthday, Herschel Walker: Here’s why you belong in the Hall of Fame

March 3, 2010

Does Herschel Walker belong in the Hall of Fame?Yes, it’s true.  Herschel Walker was born this the 3rd day of March back in 1962.  Nearly half a century later, let’s see, he’s represented the United States in the Winter Olympics; danced professional ballet; developed a successful food services enterprise; and, amongst other things,  just recently won his first MMA match.  He also dabbled in something called “Football” a bit along the way, and that’s actually what we’re focusing on today.  More specifically, why Mr. Walker’s bust should grace the hallowed halls in Canton at some point.

Yes, yes, I know.  It immediately sounds like a preposterous, if not borderline insane, suggestion, but that’s why I’m here to offer this hopefully compelling argument on Herschel’s behalf.

It might actually be more of a comparative evaluation, really.  See, I figured if I could demonstrate that Herschel was as good, better or even just comparable to an already enshrined peer that nearly no one would question is justifiably in the Hall, then one must logically accept that Walker is at least worthy of such consideration.  That said, let’s take a look at Walker’s professional career next to Tony Dorsett’s.  The results may surprise you…

Herschel Walker’s MMA Fight Video

January 31, 2010

***UPDATE: Herschel Walker defeated Scott Carson on January 29th, 2011 to improve his MMA record to 2-0. If you’re looking for video/coverage of that fight, see this link. The following video and story is related to Walker’s first MMA fight from January 30th, 2010.***

Herschel Walker's MMA Weigh-InHerschel Walker doesn’t exactly look like he’s 47 years-old, does he?  In fact, at least relative to the commonly held belief that the younger you are the better you can look, I’d say his appearance is likable to my peak potential during my neo-natal days.

But you can’t judge a book by its cover, right? Herschel being my childhood hero/sports idol, I was kind of worried when I first heard about his new MMA aspirations.

I was worried still after I saw the weigh-in photos, and despite the relatively unimposing look of the guy he’d be fighting.  Even the tattoo of stylized poultry that graced Walker’s opponent did nothing to alleviate my concerns.

Still, I love the guy, so I had no choice but to cautiously tune in last night, prepared for the worst…
