Jay Crawford Hearts Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Too Short

There’s been a lot of discussion on ESPN today about the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death.  Quite a bit more than I was expecting, honestly, but I guess Howard Cosell’s legendary announcement on Monday Night Football helps tie Lennon’s tragedy to the world of sports, if nothing else.

Well, right or wrong, Jay Crawford suffered a slightly different kind of tragedy on ESPN’s First Take this morning. The Lennon-inspired topic was “Who’s your No. 1 Musical Icon?,” and Jay’s answer didn’t go over too well (video after the jump)…

John Lennon, 1940-1980: 30th anniversary of Lennon's death
Several jams, in fact. Best of all, Frump’s gonna spare you from the tracks you might typically find on one of John’s many “Best of” collections.

Not that Lennon’s bigger, more ubiquitous hits aren’t remarkable enough, of course — we just thought these may open some new corridors for the more casual of Lennon fans out there to explore.

Gonna open it up with one of my favorites; one from what’s almost certainly Lennon’s — if not the Beatles’ — best solo work. Here’s the appropriately titled “Remember,” from 1970’s Plastic Ono Band (Lennon’s solo debut). Several more after the jump…
