Kentucky recruit may lose scholarship over Spring Break incident -- tackled security officer into the pool

Daylen Hall - Looking to plow another authority figure

Ahhh, Spring Break in Panama City, Florida.

The beach. The babes. The booze. The boom in business for the local Bar Association. And now — thanks to Kentucky’s 3* CB signee Daylen Hall — the tackling of security officers into hotel pools.

Yes, that’s apparently Daylen you see up there getting into his 3-point stance around the 1:45 mark. Him again, moments later, performing a textbook tackle on that killjoy of a hotel security guard.  Hall was eventually apprehended.

Now, taking the whole assault and battery of a peace officer bit out of it, one has to admit this is otherwise pretty dang hilarious. Spring Break, Panama City — kids these days, right?

Kentucky coach Joker Phillips not amused by Daylen Hall's tackle of security guard into Panama City pool

Probably not the face Joker was wearing when he watched Daylen's P.C. highlights

Well, something tells me Kentucky coach Joker Phillips — however ironically — may not find as much humor in this incident as Daylen and his St. Xavier teammates did.  We’ll see.

Fingers crossed for the kid and his scholarship offer to Kentucky — that is, while this unfortunate lapse in judgment certainly should serve as a good learning experience, I hope it doesn’t have to be a particularly draconian one.

Unfortunately, I can’t escape the feeling that if Daylen got out of P.C.B. VD-free, he may have no choice but to consider Spring Break 2011 a relative success.

Thanks to YouTube user lionsmgr for what appears to be the original footage and some additional background info. The comments on that video — many of which appear to be from eyewitnesses — are also quite entertaining…

NCAA Tournament of the (Previous) Decade

March 14, 2011

NCAA basketball logoNow that the first of a new decade of newly formated NCAA tournament fields has been set, Frump figured it’s as good a time as any to examine the best of the previous decade.

Some of you may recall Frumpzilla’s Top 25 College Football Programs of the Decade – it was a pretty big hit for us.

This undertaking, while in a similar vein, isn’t necessarily intended as a definitive ranking of select college basketball programs from ‘00/’01 – ‘09/’10. We basically just thought it would be interesting to see how college basketball programs would stack up when plotting out each’s NCAA Tournament performance over the course of a decade.

More than anything, we wanted this to be fun. If nothing else, you might learn a thing or two about NCAA Tournament history from 2000 through 2010 – at least quantitatively — so make the jump to see how the NCAA Tournament of the 2000’s plays out…

Don’t Worry Calipari, Marquis Teague is on Board

April 28, 2010

So I had heard about the (fake) John Calipari sending Marquis Teague a message on facebook a couple days ago, but had yet to see a screenshot today. This appears to be a screenshot of (fake) Calipari’s facebook inbox. In it you’ll see Marquis Teague is on board with all the shady s@#t him and Cal are into.

Of course I may just want to believe this is true, but why would Teague even answer if he thought it was a fake? I’m sure the Louisville fans are all over this as they’re more than pissed on how Teague’s recruitment ended(in fact, this is where the screenshot came from apparently, kudos). There was talk of Cal having Lebron James call Teague to seal the deal. The whole marriage between Cal, Lebron, World Wide Wes, and Nike really has me sick with the NCAA who turns it’s head as they count their billions of dollars. But that’s for another story.

For now, enjoy (fake) Calipari’s duping of Marquis Teague, but don’t hold your breath, nothing will ever come of it.

Calipari Pushing Patrick Patterson Out the Door

April 8, 2010

John Calipari is at it again. In a trend that’s sure to become common practice at Kentucky, Coach Cal is setting the revolving door of players in motion. Just last week, Cal made sure everyone at the McDonald’s All-American game knew 5 players would be leaving early to turn pro. Yesterday, the school released a statement confirming that John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, Daniel Orton, and Eric Bledsoe would in fact be leaving school early.

Unfortunately, this was news to Patrick Patterson and his family according to his mother.  Vaught’s Views ran a story with quotes from his mother:

“I found out UK released a statement saying Patrick and the four freshmen are leaving for the NBA and will declare for the draft,” said Tywanna Patterson Wednesday night. “I said, ‘Really, nobody told me.”

“I have a problem with it going out and not being official. It is his decision. He has not declared for the draft and once he does he can’t back out because he declared for the draft last year.”

Travis Leslie is really good at Dunk Shots…

January 9, 2010

I’ve been a huge fan of the dunk shot for many years now.  Exciting, isn’t it?  Well, Georgia’s Travis Leslie might be one of the best dunk shooters I’ve seen in quite some time, and, in terms of dunk shot prowess, he might be the closest thing the Dawgs have had to a human highlight film since Dominique Wilkins.

Expect this clip of Leslie posterising Kentucky’s Demarcus Cousins to mark his 3rd appearance in a Sportscener Top 10 within the week.  Oh, and Frump it here for some more of Leslie’s dunk shot technique from earlier in the year against St. Johns…
