Sources indicated to us at Frump earlier today that CJ Leslie committed to the Wolfpack 2 days ago with a press conference coming shortly. Well, it seems we no longer have to wait to give out that information as the internet is all abuzz with Leslie re-committing to Sidney Lowe and the NC State Wolfack!

Great Pickup for the Pack as the (pictured above) freshmen trio of Ryan Harrow, Lorenzo Brown, and CJ Leslie will ignite a Wolfpack fanbase that has been itching to get back to greatness for quite sometime.

CJ committed to NC State over Kentucky and Uconn. He is the #12 player overall according to Scout and the #11 overall according to ESPN. Recruiting may or may not be over now for the Wolfpack as Tashawn Mabry is still uncommitted.

Quote from Leslie: “The biggest factor was NC State is a school that has a chance to be great.  If all of us come in and play with the other guys and we all do our jobs, we have a chance to be great.   We can go far.  I think we can win a lot of games.”

To top it all off, assuming your brackets are performing a bit below par, here’s a great opportunity to help pad your potential losses (assuming you’re doing this legally, of course). Seriously, the trends are strong in this one.  To start, N.C. State is 23-11 ATS as an underdog over the past 2 seasons, and a respectable 18-13 ATS overall for the 2009-2010 season.  The Wolfpack are also on a 15-6 ATS run on the road over the last two seasons (today’s game is at UAB), and, in some much more narrowly tailored trends, 9-2 ATS this year after a game in which they allowed 60 points or less, and 8-2 ATS after scoring 60 points or less (both in play here),

But wait, there’s more.   The Wolfpack are also 6-0 ATS in all of their ACC and NIT Tournament games this year, 5-1 ATS in all March games, and are 16-6 ATS over the last two seasons in road games when being hosted by a team with a winning record.

Now, to be fair, strong, one-sided trends usually aren’t enough to get me excited.  Thankfully the negative UAB numbers make this one even more enticing.  UAB is 1-5 ATS as a home favorite of 3.5-6 points over the last three seasons.  The Blazers are also a quite appalling 4-14 ATS in all tournament games during the same stretch.  Read: combined with the fact that the two teams are pretty much statistically identical on paper, the trends suggest NCSU is a strong play here ATS.

Fingers crossed, for sure, but not too tightly, necessarily.  I can smell the tobacco curing already…

The Wind Beneath my Wings

Now, for those not as well versed in NCSU athletics, here’s a little taste of the situation at hand:

NC State’s Cross Country championship in November of 2009 was their first ACC Title since winning the ACC Wrestling Championship in March of 2007.

Since Fowler has been at the helm (2000), NC State has not won a conference championship in any major revenue sport (their last conference title among the major revenue programs was baseball in the 1991-1992 season).

A program with some of the best football and basketball facilities in the ACC is starved for success, and the revolution has now reached the top.  After students wore “Fire Fowler” t-shirts to express their disdain for the current steward of their floundering athletic department, his daughter confronted several fellow classmates regarding their actions.

Needless to say, this has turned ugly fast, as can be witnessed at forums here and here,  granting us access to some hilarious photographic evidence showing the old man hard at work.  Moreover, the student newspaper, The Technician, has already penned their take on Raleigh’s favorite retard (sorry, Sarah) here .

But, honestly, who can blame State fans? I would be pissed 0ff too if I had not won any championship of significance in 20 years, and pictures of my athletic director leaked that made him look closer to a cigar swindling, nap taking, karaoke loving doppelganger of Jed Clampett more than the purported leader a university of NC State’s stature deserves.

Is this the perfect storm that finally rids the Wolfpack fanbase of a persistent source of anger? We’ll see, and Frump is keeping an eye on this one.

Look for Cochese to come back strong with some more stats on Mr. Fowler, but, for now, let’s just enjoy him while he lasts…
