Our most loyal readers already know that, while Frumpzilla brings you daily doses of Sports, Entertainment and Social Commentary from Unprofessional, Highly Irresponsible Sources, our ultimate goal is “thermonuclear, global media domination.”
We may not know what that entails quite yet, or even what it means, but it sounds frumpin’ cool as hell. So, fingers crossed, I guess.
However, it now appears we may have a bit more competition.
Hugo Chavez — Venezuelan President, former Bolivian revolutionary, all-around fun guy — has announced he’s joining Twitter, which probably catapults him immediately to the number two spot amongst prominent, Venezuelan-related Twitter accounts. behind Ozzie Guillen, of course.
Unfortunately for us, and Ozzie Guillen, it also appears Chavez is tweeting for keeps…
“Comandante Chavez is going to open his Twitter account soon to wage the battle online,” Diosdado Cabello, head of the country’s telecommunications regulator, said on state television, according to the news organization.
“I’m sure he’ll break records for numbers of followers.”
Chavez said in March that he plans to use the web to interact with critics, according to Sky News.
“I’m going to have my online trench from the palace to wage the battle. I’ll provide information and even respond to my enemies,” Chavez said, according to that news site.
Record number of followers, eh? Well, we’ll just see about that.
Now, Frump, sad as it is, is obviously in no position to meet this challenge — but Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is, right?
At the time of publishing, Ozzie had 53,345 followers. I’d say that gives him a fairly good cushion on Comandante Chavez. So, I guess this is a call to arms, of sorts.
Considering Chavez isn’t exactly a bastion of freedom of speech and expression, how significant a blow could tweeters land by keeping “El Comandante” from his professed goal of dominating a medium like Twitter?
Viva Guillen! Follow Ozzie today!
