in Mother Russia, gold eats YOU
Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin have angered the natives, so to speak, during their preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The duo plan to rock the ice with skin-toned suits, adorned with red loin cloths, sequins and eucalyptus leaves…complete with a full ensemble of music and props to recreate the arid desert people’s inhospitable environment on ice.
Experts are not amused…

Experts in Australia say Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin’s
movements and body decorations bear no resemblance to that of the Aborigines’ 60,000 year old culture.
burnin up the ice
“They have got the whole thing wrong,” said Stephen Page, artistic director of the respected indigenous group, the Bangarra Dance Company.
Page said the two and half minute routine’s didgeridoo music sounded more like it came from India or Africa.
He added that the body paint looked like “a 3-year-old child had drawn it on”
the internet is serious and infallible
Oksana and Maxim not worried. They did the appropriate research on teh internetz;
“Our coach offered us this music and we decided to try it. We researched it on the internet and got a lot of information,” explained 27-year-old Shabalin.
Dont these people get it? When you are going for gold, that is all that matters. Not historical accuracy, political-correctness or people’s feelings. VICTORY. That is your charge. Natives be dammed.
