Japanese Martahon Runner Fail

Talk about taking a turn for the worse, right?  As if putting himself through the grueling test of a marathon wasn’t bad enough in and of itself, this poor fella actually had a shot a winning the damn thing. Unfortunately, the pressure apparently got to him at the end, and, well, I guess you could say he kind of went off track for a agonizing second or two (video after the jump)…

Now, I’ve never ran a marathon, nor do I plan to anytime soon, if ever. I’ve got some friends and family that have completed several, and I have the utmost respect for the accomplishment and all, but — in terms of personal appeal — it offers next to nothing to me.

Most would probably cite laziness, or perhaps lack of honorable ambition for my utter indifference towards the prospect of training for and eventually completing such a feat, but they’d be wrong. No, I’m much more put off by the possibility, perhaps even probability, of pulling something like the poor soul above — blowing it, essentially, with victory just a few feet away.

Not sure you ever fully recover from something like that. Especially in Japan. Where concepts like seppuku were invented.

I mean, it would certainly weigh heavy on my heart, which likely negates any cardiovascular benefits, of course, so why risk it? And that’s not even touching on the fact that God hates runners. So…
