Garrard’s stat line just SCREAMS Pro Bowl;
3,597 yards, 15 TDs, 10 Ints, 60.9% completions and a gaudy 83.5 QB rating
Of course, it isnt Garrard’s fault. A good guy and an ok QB…but it speaks to how muddled QB play is in the league after the top tier and how guys just dont care about the game.
Given that none of the original QBs in the AFC are going to play in the game (Brady, Rivers and P. Manning), we can cut a LITTLE slack.
Matt Schaub is certainly deserving…Schaud led the league in passing yardage in a prolific offense. Of course, it doesnt hurt to have a beast like Andre Johnson split out.
Vince Young is also worthy replacement. Young has had an improbable return to glory this season after most felt he was on the train to bust-town. The Titans rallied behind the maligned QB, whose play over the second half of the season found Jeff Fisher’s team competing for a playoff spot after starting 0-6.
Then you have Garrard. Meh. The Jags, while theoretically in the playoff chase at the end of the season were middling, at best, and really produced no drama or story lines besides repeated references to their apathetic fan base and subsequent local blackouts.
How was Garrard chosen over Flacco or Orton? Both of them threw for more yards, more TDs, a higher completion % and had higher QB ratings. Plus, both guys certainly OVER performed this season and took huge strides into establishing themselves for the long haul.
For Garrard, it was more of the same.
Its time for the NFL to ditch the Pro Bowl. Name your all-stars. Do skills competitions, feats of strength, etc…but no one cares for the game. Its awkward, boring and the player selection process is clearly flawed.
