Sure, we all do (don't we?), but we also need to be aware of the potential drawbacks. It's true, as an NFL player you may get all the fancy ladies, and the clothes, and the free creams and lotions, but you could also end up with a finger like the Jags' Torry Holt down there (It looks like that permanently, Frumpsters). Yeah, so for all of you out there thinking about trying out at your favorite franchise's mini-camp this weekend, and I know there's at least handful of ya, consider this your public service announcement for the day foreseeable future.
We all remember the 1985 Chicago Bears and their Grammy nominated(look it up) "hit", "The Super Bowl Shuffle". In fact, you may actually remember the parody on SNL moreso. If you're like me, when you first saw the shuffle your thought process would've been something along the lines of "Holy crap, those dudes look ridiculous and I would rather be caught holding the lighter in the next Amy Winehouse crack video than look that absurd on film".
Well, apparently the other squads in the NFL didn't take the hint and wanted to leave their truly unforgettable mark on the world of "music videos". Jones allegedly made it rain more than previously thought in connection with the Vegas shootings that led to his 2007 suspension. Reports are out indicating that the troubled corner had over $15,000 extorted from him by Arvin Kenti Edwards, a man now in custody in connection with the shootings at Vegas' Harlem Knights strip club. Apparently Edwards threatened Jones and his family, and went through the former West Virginia star's friends and relatives in order to secure the payments for "services rendered". Jones flew to Seattle earlier to identify Edwards as the gunman and extortioner and continues to maintain that he had no role in the actual shootings whatsoever.
More details in the link, but, all in all, I'd say $15,000 was a bargain under the circumstances, and apparently Jones has been cooperating with the authorities for quite some time now, which is good. Nevertheless, it seems a bit unclear how this may affect Pacman's path to being reinstated by the league. Was this simply "hush money", or something connected to the investigation, or maybe just money Jones genuinely believed was necessary to ensure his family's safety? Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how all this pans out.
