NASCAR’s Newest Team Owner- Randy Moss? Really?

Randy Moss will dip his fingers into the popularity of NASCAR. He is starting a new NASCAR Craftsman Truck team in hopes of out running the competion in a new sport. Per espn.com, "New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss announced the formation of Moss Motorsports, LLC, and said Tuesday he hopes to have a team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series by the end of this year.

Moss said his goal is for the team to debut at selected races in the second half of the 2008 season, with a full-time schedule in 2009. Currently, the team has no driver, manufacturer or sponsors lined up.

"We don't have all of the details in place just yet, but I am very excited about Moss Motorsports becoming a part of NASCAR," he said. "I am by nature a very competitive person and this is an outlet for me to compete at another level.

"There are some pretty awesome challenges in building a program like this from the ground up, but I am looking forward to it."

As stated on Lincsymms.com, "Pimpin Ain't Easy!", neverthless it seems Moss may have a driver lined up already:

Linc, a Rand native and fireman for the City of Charleston, realized his long time goal of becoming a race car driver at the Beckley Speedway thanks to RGM Motorsports (as in Randy Gene Moss, all pro-wide receiver for the New England Patriots and former Rand resident.

Symns helped build race cars and changed enough tires and he longed to sit in the hot seat come race night. "I typed up a letter to Randy and I put it off and put it off giving it to him," Symns said. "one time when he came in, I asked my friend what he thought of [of the letter]. He told me that I would never know until I gave it to [Moss]. All he could do was say no.

"I gave it to him and he took it [to his advisors]. It was all a go after that. Things started happening pretty quickly. Now i have my chance and it's exciting."

Symns recruited some of the best racing minds in the area to help him, including Mike Sampson and Rick Lucas, who helped put together the blue No. 34 car that features Moss' name and number.

"He's making Linc's dream come true, " said Donnie Jones, the friend that Symns bounces his idea off of. Jones is also a close friend of Moss and an employee of RGM Enterprises.

"For Moss to come home and do this for someone in our community, that's a big thing," said Jones.

We'll see how this pans out.  I wish him and his new team the best of luck.  For the sake of NASCAR and its loyal fans, let's hope that the above clip does NOT become part of a checkered flag celebration!
