You know what, I should probably backtrack a bit here. This probably isn’t reggae, technically speaking. Probably wouldn’t be fair to call it dancehall either.
In fact, I actually have no idea how to classify it. So, for now, I’m just going to call it “Faith-Based, Reggae-Like, Dancehallish, Childrens’ Music.” Or, in other words, crap.
Now, I’m not sure if Trevor Sayers was simply trying to capitalize on the enormous success of X-tReMe Power’s “Respect and Obey Authority,” but it sure as hell seems like it, and that’s not cool.
That said, I must say Sayers’ use of the cat in this song was quite innovative, at least within this genre. Respect.
