Who knew appearing in such films as “Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun”; “In Thru the Out Door“; “Anal Cravings 13”; “Major Slut“; “Ass Whores 12”; “Butt Brats 7“; and “John T. Bone Presents: Tight Ass” would suggest one wasn’t qualified to be a public school teacher in this country?
Apparently Ms. Tera Myers didn’t, but she does now. And she learned that lesson — multiple times — the hard way.
Myers was forced to quit her job at St. Louis, Missouri’s Parkway North High School after a student discovered — and of course disseminated — the fact that the teacher had once starred in several pornographic video features.
‘The whole school knew in five minutes,” said Parkway North student Sarah Mennicucci (yes, that’s her real name). “Either way, someone was going to find out one day, and that’s just, like, a bad look on you when you’re a school teacher,” Mennicucci added.
Curiously, this isn’t the first time Myers’ previous profession has cost her a teaching position. Back in 2006, Myers — then going by the name Tericka Dye — was suspended from her position at a Paducah, Kentucky school. Many parents and students stood behind the teacher back then, but her contract was not renewed, as school officials apparently felt the nature of Myers’ past would prove too great a distraction in the classroom.
The teacher now calls her career in the adult film industry her “worst [mistake] ever,” and has even gone on Dr. Phil to express her frustrations about its ramifications. Local reports indicate that this “mistake” was made more than 15 years ago, but Myers’ information on IMDB conflicts with such a timetable….
For instance, Myers — working as “Rikki Andersin” — apparently appeared in “In Thru the Out Door” in 2000. She also made two films each in 1999 and 1998: “Major Slut,” “Valentino’s Sexual Reality 4: Inside L.A,” “Anal Cravings 13,” and, of course, “Tight Ass,” respectively.
That said, the point here is not simply how long it’s been since Ms. Myers has had anal sex — on film, for money. No, I’m actually more concerned about what such a past actually says — if anything — about her ability to be a quality science teacher.
While I certainly can respect the “distraction” argument cited by school officials above, I also don’t see why it couldn’t be applied to several other “skeletons,” curiosities and/or generally provocative aspects of many peoples’ lives.
Would a former, high-profile professional athlete’s past accomplishments and media stature be any less of a distraction in a high school classroom? What about a former TV/film actor, or pop star? If anything, those might be greater deterrents to a 16 year-old’s focus on education, but then such pasts aren’t nearly as taboo in our society.
So why not say what this is really about: Americans — for the most part — are still very much afraid of sex. It’s dirty and shameful, and if you’re willing to do it on film, let alone with the hopes of other people watching your work on said film, you’re even more shameful for it.
Ms. Myers wasn’t forced out because she was a distraction — she’s simply been deemed “immoral.” That is unless she’s requiring students to critique her work in “Ass Whores 12” as part of their evaluation, of course, but I seriously doubt that’s the case.
After all, as Myers has claimed, and no one has apparently denied:
Anybody who’s been in my classroom can tell you how much I love teaching and how much I love these students. That should be what matters more than anything I’ve ever done in my past.
I couldn’t agree more, Ms. Myers. And as long as you don’t go out of your way to highlight the anal escapades of your porno-past life in the classroom — and do your best to foster a professional, positive learning environment for your students — I’ll be right there behind you in support.
Here’s to hoping some school system, somewhere, has the balls to hire you on your merits as a teacher — not shun you for your candid willingness to do anal. On film. For money.
