Is the NFC North inept enough for the Lions to make a title challenge?

Jim Schwartz throwing the greatest challenge flag in NFL history

Jim Schwartz is certainly hoping his Lions can make a run at the playoffs

Assuming Detroit’s goal is to win the NFC North, Week 7 of the 2010 NFL season may have been the Lions most productive performance in quite some time.

Two of the Lions’ three “Norris Division” contenders getting clipped was an obvious positive, and the bye week, of course, meant Detroit was atypically safe from suffering its 6th loss of the season.

The fact that these two blessings coincided, well, again: let’s just say that, for 2.5  NFL seasons, Week 7 was about as good as it gets for the boys in Honolulu Blue.

But wait…there’s more. Let alone the losses themselves, did you happen to catch any of the Packers, Vikings, and Bears this weekend? Oh my, it wasn’t pretty.

If the Packers offense was ever on the same page, it was in different books; Brett Lorenzo Favre played about as well as he would have in a Rascal – and may have actually needed one at the end; and the Bears participated in possibly the sloppiest game in recent NFL memory, not to mention against Detroit’s Week 8 opponent, the Washington Redskins.

Combined, the three active NFC North offenses turned the ball over 11 times in Week 7, and, ultimately, one has to wonder just how capable any of them are of cementing a playoff birth anytime soon.

Enter the Detroit Lions, who, at 1-5, certainly don’t appear any more capable than the rest at first glance.  With a closer look, however, one sees that Jim Schwartz’s team might just have an outside shot at what few ever considered possible…

Bengal rabbit, or "Bungal." Many thanks to Frumpzilla's geneticists.

In a true clash of the titans, the Frumpzilla staff presents its picks for the playoffs.  The favorite here could be The Chese as he just won a season-long pick ’em; although, I’m sure his partner (Beeker) carried him…..so, nevermind.

Tiebreakers will be decided in the ocatagon…the caged
octagon….with hands dipped in glass.  And steel ladders and chairs.
And Ms. Elizabeth ring-side.

(That pic is for you, Admiral)

UPDATE:  STANDINGS…..

TGHM…2-2

B.  Diddy…2-2

11 Days of Bowling: BCS Championship Game

Nick Saban is going for this 2nd BCS Championship tonight Mack Brown will also be seeking his 2nd BCS Title tonight

And now for the big one.  The one for all the marbles.  The only marbles, depending on who you ask.  The BCS Championship.  Nick Saban and Mack Brown are both seeking their 2nd BCS Title tonight; Texas, its 5th Mythical National Championship…Alabama, its 37th (depending on who you ask).

After Central Michigan could only give us a push last night against Troy, Frumpzilla is sitting at 9-6-2 for our feature.  With that in mind, we’re definitely in the playmoney regardless of what happens tonight, and that’s always nice.  Still, think it’s time to press our luck a bit more than usual and try to get us to 11-6-2.  Frump it here for how we’re gonna do this in a BCS Title game that packs a bit more drama than usual…

DeSean Jackson throws down the gauntlet! (I think)

DeSean Jackson

“Mike Jenkins ain’t never shut me down, so y’all chill out over there,” Jackson said. “Them boys are scared of me. I’m a dual threat on that field. They be having like four people on your boy out there, but it’s all good.”

Jackson has 5 catches for 76 yards and no TD’s vs. the Cowboys this season

If you are as confused as I am, Frump it for a translation…

11 Days of Bowling: The GMAC Bowl

Central Michigan vs. Troy in the 2009 GMAC Bowl

And now, the bowl we’ve all been waiting for.  That’s right, Frumpsters, it’s Central Michigan vs. Troy in the GMAC Bowl; and timed perfectly, the night before the BCS National Championship.  The whole staff here at Frumpzilla is thumped up for this one, espiecally considering that, after Iowa came through for us in convincing fashion last night (The Gingerhead Man owes me some booze for that one, by the way), we can hit double digits in the win column if when we pick this one correctly.

Expect us (and possibly you) to be 10-6-1 after tonight.  Frump it here for why…

2010 Fed Ex Orange Bowl: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech Okay, so we missed a day, but I think B-Diddy’s excellent post on the Fiesta Bowl probably redeems us (despite his incredible insensitivity).

Now sitting at 8-6-1 for the feature, tonight we take a look at what appears to be a relatively drab matchup between the Iowa Hawkeyes and ACC Champion Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.  8:20 PM ET, Fox.
